Andre Balazs Maison Tropicale To End Up In St. Barths?

maison tropicalehotel chatterHotelier Andre Balazs recently purchaced one of three famed Maison Tropicale by Jean Prouve for close to $5 million. These Maison Tropicale, or tropical houses, were originally designed for French colonists in Africa. This particular one was relocated from the Congo, restored, and planted in Long Island City, New York. Although there is no confirmation where the house will end up, there is buzz that the $4,968,000 masterpiece will end up in St. Barths. Naturally, we will keep a close eye on things and bring you the news if and when it happens.

More St. Barts Waterfront Properties On The Way

Recently a fund was set up to develop more water front properties in prime locations, St. Barts being one of them. The Global Waterfront Fund, with directors, Olivier Dupraz, Mark Shadwick and Tim de Rosen, is looking to raise $100 million to develope waterfront properties for the rich and famous. With its sights set on St. Barts among others, one can only wait to see what great properties the fund will be putting up in our neck of the islands.

Property on St. Barths throughout the past 20 years has been booming to say the least. More than a thousand foreigners (both American and European) have either purchased or built their own second homes on this tiny island of roughly 8 square miles. Even now, property owners must deal with the piercing sound of jackhammers that signify even more construction. It’s not hard to figure out what is so alluring about the island- the sophisticated atmosphere and the French cuisine to name a few. This makes the property market extremely active, with a demand that surpasses the supply, and the players in this market are so wealthy that currency fluctuations have little effect.
