American Airlines Seasonal Embargo

Before you fly to St. Barths, it would be wise to check with American Airlines first. Effective June 9 through August 12, the airline will enforce an embargo on boxes and additional baggage that will affect travelers to and from the Carribean. Specifically listed are Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Port-au-Price and Kingston. American Eagle flights to and from San Juan are also affected. Additionally, there is a year-round box embargo for flights passing through New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) en route to all destinations in the Carribean and Latin America.

Passport Requirement Change Through September 2007

Due to the volume of passport applications and wait, the departments of State and Homeland Security have reversed the passport requirement for American citizens flying to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.

Though Americans flying to these areas will not be asked to present their passports upon reentering the U.S., travelers will, however, be required to show proof of identification, such as a valid driver’s license, in addition to proof that they have applied for a passport to get back into the U.S.

The legislation regarding pets and their travel rights varies with destination. Most locations allow pets as long as they have updated medical records of their health history and vaccination records. St. Barths is pleased to welcome cats and dogs over three months old with certificates of origin and good health. This includes anti-rabies inoculation issued by a licensed veterinarian from the country of shipment. These pets are admitted only temporarily. It is important to research your destination’s pet policy before traveling in order to avoid any inconveniences.
