Transportation around St. Barths

Many car rental agencies can be found throughout St. Barths. In addition, motorcycles and scooters can also be rented. To rent a car, a valid driver’s license is needed from your country of residence.

For those renting cars, there is a gas station near the airport (hours of operation are Mon-Sat 7:30am-12 noon and 2-5pm), which also has a 24-hour credit card gas pump (however, please note that some foreign credit cards do not work at the pump). Another gas station is located in Lorient (hours of operation are Mon-Sat, 7:30am-5pm, closed Thurs and Sat afternoons).

Though roads around St. Barth are in good condition, they are steep, narrow and winding. For those opting to rent cars or other modes of transportation, please exercise caution when driving around the island.

Driving is on the right. Seat belts are required by law and mandatory; children under 12 years of age are required to sit in the back seat of a vehicle. There are no traffic lights on the island. At an intersection, the driver on the right has the right of way.
